What if anxiety isn’t something wrong with us that needs to be treated medically, but instead, is actually our Spirit trying to get our attention? You may have been interpreting anxiety as negative energy, when all along, it may have been trying to offer you a clearer way to a better life! The spiritual meaning behind depression, anxiety, and panic attacks
There is the most common form of anxiety which shows itself in all animals and humans, and that occurs when there is a threat in the outside world, such as a hurricane moving in.
Then there are anxiety disorders which usually show up after a major trauma. These types of disorders occur because the person is looping in the old memory and thinks there is a possible threat (even though no real threat may be currently present). These disorders impair general functioning and have been labeled by the medical community as PTSD, Agoraphobia, Panic Disorder, etc.
The third type of anxiety is the one I see most people suffering from, and it is called Spiritual Anxiety. Most people interpret this anxiety as negative energy because the symptoms tend to be difficult to deal with. But what most people don’t realize is spiritual anxiety shows up to help you get more clear about your values and priorities.
Symptoms of Anxiety and What They Might Be Telling You
You may have been experiencing symptoms such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, worry, and restless sleep, and these feelings create a great degree of discomfort in the physical body. What I have observed is that more often than not, the amount of discomfort is directly related to how hard we have worked to ignore, deny, repress, resist, suppress and silence our truth.
That’s right. Your anxiety might be trying to tell you something…
But instead, Western medicine and psychologists want to give you drugs and therapy to help you silence those symptoms… Does this alleviate the symptoms of worry, sleeplessness, panic attack, depression and anxiety? Maybe temporarily… but look forward to a long list of new symptoms added on from the drugs you are taking… cue the diarrhea 🙁 And on top of that, you aren’t really addressing the root of the problem.
Society Means Well
Our culture is hooked on feeling well as soon as possible. Of course we don’t want to watch someone suffer long-term. And sometimes (sh*#) “life” happens, and when it does, we’re going to normally experience sadness, worry, doubt, and fear. Society, however, has decided that these feelings are “bad” and in order to make everyone else feel okay, we’d better find a way to get rid of these “bad” feelings quickly.
Our instincts also support this by telling us pain is bad and that we need to make it go away. So basically, we are conditioned to think as soon as anxiety and depression show up, the best answer is to seek a way to GET RID OF IT. However, the most effective method I have seen in moving through symptoms of anxiety, depression, panic attack, sleeplessness, and worry, is quite counter-intuitive. Instead of making the “pain,” go away, it’s actually better to get closer to it.
Energy Healing and Meaning of Anxiety
So how does one move through the symptoms of anxiety in a more holistic and healthy way?
First, we have to address the real issue which is often a lack of connection. Many people who suffer from anxiety also describe feeling disconnected, alone, confused, out of sorts, and sad. These symptoms are also trying to speak to you and can offer the solution in a very simple way.
In working with clients, the one thing that tended to resolve anxiety almost immediately was naming their TRUTH. They may have been going along with what others wanted for a long time, or worrying about what others think, or avoiding their own path… all of these things add up to one major reason why anxiety will appear and that is a disconnection from soul.
So in essence, if you use drugs, it’s like you are masking the symptoms of disconnection.
And this whole time, you thought anxiety meant you were losing it.
Well, you kind-of are…
You’ve lost the one thing that matters most… your connection to your true self.
Anxiety is showing up as a red flag to tell you that you have lost this connection.
And here’s the kicker, once your truths are acknowledged, the symptoms subside because the flag no longer needs waving!
A Better Way to Cure Anxiety
A more holistic approach to dealing with the symptoms of anxiety involves becoming closer to and more present with these feelings instead of pushing them away. Begin by accepting the anxiety and that it is there to help you.
The anxiety acts as a guide to help you hear things you might have been neglecting for some time. Instead of running from the anxiety, create space to be present with it.
As I like to say, invite it in and sit with it. Then get really quiet and listen. Act as if the anxiety is your close friend and wants to tell you something important. If the anxiety has been getting worse
If you have been feeling more anxious, then it has been trying to get your attention for some time. Perhaps you have been neglecting to take care of yourself. Maybe there is grief that needs to be released. Maybe the way you have been living is not a match for your Soul’s highest truth. Perhaps you have been resisting starting a creative endeavor that’s been nagging at you for some time. Maybe you have stayed in an unhealthy relationship and you have been building up resentment for years. The key is to simply take a few minutes and tune in to the anxiety and discover what it is trying to tell you.
What happens when you get to the core of the issue?
Once we see, hear, understand, and realize the truth beneath the symptoms, they are no longer necessary and simply release. By simply giving our truth the attention it needs, not only do the symptoms subside, but the frequency and duration also decrease to the point where they are no longer necessary. The result is a natural symptom of happiness and joy as we finally allow our spirit to be heard and we take actions to live in our truth.
