As a symbol, lightening is a sign of change; usually very sudden, not-so-pleasant change. As humans, we try to control life and the changes that occur. We try to make change gradual to make things easier on ourselves. This allows our mind time to accommodate to the change. And it helps us to become accustomed to different shifts in our lives. When a sudden, cataclysmic change occurs, such as when lightening strikes, it shows us that sometimes things are out of our control and that sudden change can enter our lives in the blink of an eye. Such a drastic upheaval means the Universe is trying to wake us up from our zombie-like state. This wake-up call comes in the form of an event that blind-sides us and shakes us out of the fog we’ve been living in.

The beauty behind lightening is that it comes from nature. The symbolism in lightening is a powerful, positive, universal force that helps us get out of our rut and to initiate good changes in our lives. It wakes us up and helps us to admit that there may be problems or things that aren’t working for us anymore and that we can no longer turn away.
